THE BATHROOM on the 2nd floor of the dorm? You have got to be kidding! And you are smiling?
With a big smile and excited hands flying, Flo, with great enthusiasm, explained to me that there just was NO ROOM at the present DOOR-Africa facility for her to work last year. In 2009 Flo was in charge of coordinating 6 Deaf translation teams; keeping track of all their videotaping and editing tapes and DVDs. It's an administrative and logistical nightmare; but she loves it and does an EXCELLENT job!
In January of 2010 when I was in Africa visiting, Flo was thrilled that I wanted to come see her office and take some pictures. With great pride and a big smile, she showed me her bathroom office. With her desk facing the 3 sinks and the showers and toilet stalls behind her, hidden by a huge curtain, Flo explained that this gave her plenty of room to spread out all the tapes, DVDs and papers she needs to deal with on a daily basis. She was a picture of total contentment! (How many of us would be content?)
NEWS FLASH: Just received an e-mail from DOOR-Africa that the other big bathroom in the dorm is now being used by 4 people!!! The 3-man artist team from India and the Kenya artist! (That also means that everyone needs to use the one remaining bathroom in the dorm!)
This is why DOOR is in the process of building a DEAF BIBLE TRANSLATION AND TRAINING CENTER that can house as many as 8-10 translation teams at a time!
- A place where Flo can have her own office.
- A place where the Deaf artists can have their own office!
- And, bathrooms can be used for their designated purpose!
Once the complex is completed, it will allow as many as 10 sign language translation teams to work simultaneously, with facilitators and consultants on site to help the translators on a daily basis. What a blessing that will be!
It will provide classrooms, video studios, computer room for editing, translation team dormitories, staff housing, cafeteria, meeting room and offices ... and bathrooms!!!
Move in date is September, 2010 – PRAY all continues to go well and on schedule.
