God's Stories brings RECONCILIATION!
His father wept ... and held his Deaf son in his arms for a long time as a gesture of forgiveness and great love for his changed son.
"What made you change?" asked his father.
"The stories, father! The Bible stories." he replied.
Even though he professed to be a Christian, this Filipino Deaf man realized he had shown no respect for this family. It was the story of Eve giving into temptation and eating the fruit that first convicted him. Then thinking about how God did not accept Cain's offering and how Cain rebelled and killed his brother, Abel ... it made him think more ... AND HE WENT AND APOLOGIZED to his parents, relatives and grandparents for all he had done to hurt them in the past. God's stories changed his MIND ... his HEART ... his LIFE!
One night, unable to sleep, he noticed his sister was also awake. They started talking. He shared the first 3 stories of the Evangelism Series with her, discussing the stories with her. He asked her to forgive him for his cruel actions toward her (beating her up) in the past. With a big hug, she forgave him. God's stories changed both of their MINDS ... their HEARTS ... their LIVES!
Imagine what it's like for a non-literate person who has no access to the Word of God, yet wants to follow Jesus ... HOW DO THEY DO IT?
"My Kenyan parents forced me and my other Deaf siblings to go to church every Sunday. They wanted us to look like a normal family. There was no interpreter in church. My parents didn't know enough sign language to interpret. The hearing preacher spoke directly to the hearing congregation. As Deaf we could not understand. We never attended a Deaf service. We had no way of learning God's Word."
"My parents think I can do nothing like hearing people. They are content for me to just stay at home with the cows and goats."
It is DOOR's goal to provide the non-literate Deaf access to God's Word in their heart language - Sign Language. The unreached Deaf around the world are receptive and curious. GOD' S WORD IS FOR EVERY PERSON (Deaf or hearing)!
