Jojo: Asia Communications Coordinator, Translation Consultant
Wendy (Wilson): Asia Communications Coordinator, Translation Consultant Assistant in training
Children: Katelyn & Josephine (Josie)
Jojo is hearing, and has a Deaf older brother. After becoming a Christian, Jojo dedicated himself to the Lord’s service. While Jojo was studying in Madras at the Hindustan Bible College, he met four DOOR missionaries and led them to Kerala to meet the Deaf in his hometown. During their visit, the Lord opened Jojo’s eyes to the Deaf world. Jojo began praying about the possibility of working with the Deaf and DOOR. After attending and graduating from the DOOR-Africa DCLTC (Deaf Christian Leadership Training Center) in December 2001, Jojo returned to India to serve with the DOOR-India team. He now serves as Wycliffe/DOOR Training Coordinator for both India and the Philippines and works as a Wycliffe/DOOR Translation Consultant with ASL (American), KSL (Kenya), ISL (Indian) and FSL (Filipino) Sign Language translation projects.
Wendy, a hearing woman from Wisconsin, accepted Christ at a young age. In high school, Wendy became friends with her pastor’s Deaf children and began learning American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. In June of 1994, Wendy volunteered at the DOOR Deaf Kids for Jesus Camp in Indiana; her first immersion into the Deaf community. She loved it! DOOR asked her to participate in a short-term mission trip to Eastern Europe. Wendy joined DOOR staff, and during the next 5 years, she traveled on several short-term trips to Europe, Africa, and India. In August of 1999, Wendy completed a year of training at DOOR’s Deaf Christian Leadership Training Center in North Carolina, and has served since then in India, Kenya, and the Philippines. Wendy and Jojo were married in 2002 and have two daughters, Katelyn and Josephine (Josie).
As Wycliffe/DOOR Training Coordinators, the Ninans are in charge of guiding the teams that are doing chronological Bible Scripture translation. This means they are responsible for training and for supporting the process of putting God's Word on video/DVD. Jojo and Wendy will work extensively with Wycliffe International to do back translations (translations from Sign Language to written English for non-signing translation consultants), community testing, and consultant checking in ASL (American Sign Language), KSL (Kenya Sign Language), ISL (India Sign Language) and FSL (Filipino Sign Language).
