While working as a cook at Kenya Baptist Theological College (KBTC), Charles met the Deaf students in DOOR-Africa's first training class (DOOR did not purchase a building until 2001 so the classes were held at KBTC). During and after meal time, Charles started interacting with the Deaf, learning some Kenyan Sign Language.
When DOOR-Africa opened their training center in Nairobi, they asked Charles if he would join the DOOR team. Charles' responsibilities include cooking, purchasing food, laundry, repair, and maintenance work. He finds the DOOR-Africa DCLTC (Deaf Christian Leadership Training Center) to be a great place to work, as he loves working with the Deaf.
And, his signing has greatly improved!
