Jared was born hearing on May 10, 1980. At the age of five years, Jared became sick and lost his hearing the same year.
As a child Jared attended Maseno Primary School for the Deaf from 1986 to 1988, and then transferred to Nairobi School for the Deaf from 1989 to 1995. He received his secondary education at Kuja Secondary School for the Deaf from 1999 to 2003. Mathematics and Religious Education were his favorite subjects. His hobbies include reading and soccer.
After completing his secondary education, Jared was employed as a shopkeeper by a group of Deaf women entrepreneurs. He worked at the shop for two years.
Jared learned about Jesus at a youth camp organized for Deaf people where he accepted Jesus as his Savior.
In the year 2005, Jared studied at a Bible College for the Deaf in Machakos where he was trained in Christian leadership and Chronological Bible Storying (CBS) for one year. After completing his studies, he was employed there as a cook for one year.
In 2007 he married Nancy Njoki. Nancy was born hearing but became Deaf after suffering from meningitis. She is the youngest in a family of 8. She is talented in drama and storytelling. She is a committed, hardworking Christian. In 2004 Nancy graduated from DOOR-Africa's Christian Leadership Training program.
Jared joined DOOR at a critical time when DOOR-Africa was beginning to implement a Bible translation program for multiple African Sign Languages. He appreciates the opportunity to work with DOOR in this program, and loves the challenge of studying God's Word with the various translation teams. It brings him joy to see them understanding and able to translate God's Word well into their own countries' Sign Languages.
He has served Nairobi Deaf Church in various capacities. Now, he fellowships in one of the newly established Believers' Fellowships in the Nairobi-Jericho area.
