DOOR Ministry "Tools"

DOOR Ministry Tools

If you are going to do a job, you need the right tools.  These are the tools that DOOR teaches and uses in ministry.  These tools are related to evangelism, discipleship, worship, leadership development and Bible translation.

  1. PERSONAL TESTIMONY

We learn to tell the story of what our lives were like before we knew God, how we learned about Jesus, when and how we gave our lives to Jesus, and how our lives changed afterwards.

  2. SHORT EVANGELISM  STORY

This is a chronological (in time order) summary of the Bible in about 10 minutes. It shows a little about God, creation, man/woman, sin, Satan, our need for a Savior, Jesus, salvation, Spirit-led life, and the establishment of the church.

  3. "RELATIONSHIP BROKEN - RELATIONSHIP RESTORED" PROGRAM

This is the same short evangelism story as above.  Then we add dramas, songs and dialogue. This is a very good and interesting evangelism program for larger groups to watch (like at a school, a festival, a big event, etc.).

  4. EVANGELISM SERIES

This is 32 parts or stories from the Bible, from Genesis to Acts.  This is good for anyone, but especially good for people who don't know much about God or the Bible yet.  It's a good foundation.  Usually, a teacher teaches one story each time he meets with people who want to learn.  So this could take days, weeks, or months to teach.  It includes an introduction that explains any strange new words or signs, shows a map with the places where the story happens, and shows the name signs of the people in the story. It also includes discussion about what we learned from the story.

  5. DISCIPLESHIP SERIES

This is 77 parts or stories from the Bible, from Genesis to Acts.  This is good for people who have already learned the Evangelism series, and now want to learn more.  It studies the same 32 stories from the Evangelism Series, but more in depth, plus 44 new stories.  We learn about what it means to live as a Christian every day and have a strong relationship with God.

  6. BELIEVERS' FELLOWSHIP SERIES

This is about 35 parts or stories from the Bible, from Acts to Revelation.  This is good for people who have already learned the Evangelism Series and the Discipleship Series.  This shows what believers' fellowships look like, and how Christians interact with other Christians and with non-Christians.

  7. TOPIC SERIES

DOOR is planning to choose more stories and parts of the Bible to teach series about specific topics, like, for example, marriage, family, faith, prayer, obedience, suffering, etc.

  8. BELIEVERS' FELLOWSHIPS

Deaf Christians need to meet together regularly in believers' fellowships to learn God's Word, pray, worship God, give, have the Lord's Supper, encourage each other to use their spiritual gifts, plant (start) more churches, etc.

(DOOR's Deaf staff members worldwide decided to sign "believers' fellowship" instead of "church." When we sign the usual sign for "church," Deaf people think of a big church building with a full-time paid pastor and other paid staff. As we have learned about the church in the Bible, we feel that "believers' fellowship" helps us to remember what the church looked like in the Bible. The Bible doesn't say that a church must have its own building or any paid staff. From our experience, we believe that it's very hard to make a Deaf church that includes a big church building and paid full-time staff.  Even if we can start one Deaf church like that, it will be very hard to plant more and more churches like that.

  9. LEADERSHIP

A group of Deaf and hearing people from DOOR's International's staff are meeting regularly to talk and learn about how to develop Christian Deaf leaders. They are working on making leadership training courses in Deaf culture and sign language. (Click here for more information: International Leadership Team)

  10. BIBLE ON DVD

We are working with Wycliffe Bible Translators to translate parts of the Bible in several different Sign Languages and putting them on DVD. (Click here for more information: Translation.)

  11. STORYBOARD

Every DOOR Deaf translation team has a Deaf artist on the team.  The Deaf artists are drawing a picture for each part of the Bible story. We call this a "storyboard."  If Deaf people see the story signed by a live Deaf person, or on video, but then can't watch DVDs in their home, the storyboards can help them to review and remember the story.

  12. "2 X 2" PROGRAM

Following the example of Jesus, DOOR is sending out teams of two or more well-trained Deaf leaders in India.  They are  developing Deaf Christian community leaders by training them in how to study the Bible, share their testimony, start Deaf believers' fellowships, train other leaders, and manage projects and teams.

  13. DEAF/HEARING CULTURE

DOOR continues to educate both Deaf and hearing people about Deaf culture and hearing culture.
